Our paints and pigments consist of natural ingredients, and there can be slight variation between batches.

Color Tip

You can increase the movement of light colors by layering two shades. Typically a darker color goes on first and then a lighter color will go on top as a second coat. You may either select two complementing colors from our palette for layering them or select one color and order it in two different strengths i.e. 50, or 100 % lighter, or darker formula.

Coverage

1 Gallon covers approximately 400 sq ft in 1 coat, depending on the surface and application, is usually applied in 2 coats.

Shipping Information

Orders typically ship in 1-4 business days. Shipping charges vary depending on your zip code and weight of your orders and will be calculated at checkout.

Everything You Need To Know

About Lime Paint

Color Atelier Limewash is a natural, mineral-based paint that delivers a softly textured, matte finish in a beautiful range of colors, creating a durable, breathable coating ideal for both interior and exterior surfaces. A truly wonderful traditional material that ages beautifully, and will continue to patina years after.

Prime with Color Atelier Mineral Primer on previously painted surfaces. On new drywall, always use a water based, stain blocking primer before our Mineral Primer.

In high moisture or high traffic areas, we recommend finishing the Lime Paint with Color Atelier Sealers; water-based sealer or wax-based sealer. The sealer will give protection and is easily cleanable.

Lime Paint is NOT recommended for showers or areas exposed to grease splatter, such as near stovetops.

Lighter colors have a more subtle movement quality in the finish, while darker colors have a more textured appearance to them. In order to increase the movements, similar to a plaster aesthetic, applying two different color strengths in layers would be recommended. Typically, a darker strength is used for the first coat, while a lighter strength is applied as the second coat on top.

Color Atelier Lime Paint has a traditional limewash consistency that is naturally more fluid than conventional latex paints. Because it is mineral based, viscosity can vary by color. Deeper, more heavily pigmented shades tend to feel thicker, while lighter tones are typically more fluid. This variation is completely normal, as pigment load affects thickness. More pigmented colors may also thicken slightly after sitting. If that happens, stir thoroughly and, if needed, add up to 10% clean water to bring the paint back to an easy, more workable consistency.

For most primed drywall surfaces, we recommend using our light-to-medium colors as-is, without dilution. On more porous surfaces such as brick, stone, or concrete, adding water can create a more translucent, soft-washed finish, if desired.

COVERAGE:

1 gallon covers approximately 400 sq ft in 1 coat, depending on the surface and application, is usually applied in 2 coats.

APPLICATION:

Can be applied to drywall, plaster, masonry, brick, stone and previously painted surfaces. The lime paint comes in a ready-mixed form, it only requires good stirring before use, preferably with an electric paddle mixer. It is typically applied in two coats using a block brush with multi-directional strokes. Ideally allow lime paint to dry 12 hours or more in between coats.

If applied over an existing smooth plaster wall that is absorbent, it can be polished to a shine much like a plaster finish.
