What is Tadelakt?
Color Atelier Shower Plaster is used for Tadelakt application.
Tadelakt is a traditional Moroccan plastering technique that creates a waterproof
surface for walls and ceilings, suitable for wet areas such as shower stalls, tub
surroundings, and kitchen backsplashes. For centuries it is appreciated for its
beauty and function. The application is now adapted for U.S. substrates. It has
became quite the buzz among interior designers, architects, and builders in the
U.S. over recent years. Color Atelier Tadelakt Shower Plaster has a smooth and
slightly shiny appearance with subtle movement, is very durable, quite water resistant,
and breathable. It will provide excellent bond to any properly prepared porous substrate,
interior or exterior. It is a naturally elegant alternative for an organic, tactile look.
Aside from its beauty, there are no seams or grout lines in its application.
Is Tadelakt environmentally friendly?
Color Atelier Tadelakt Shower Plaster is made from natural materials, does not contain volatile organic compounds, and it is naturally mold and mildew resistant.
Where can I use Tadelakt?
It is designed for use in wet areas like showers, and baths. Sealing and/or waxing is necessary for surfaces in direct contact with water. It can also be used for decorative dry area applications.
What colors does Tadelakt come in?
Tadelakt color palette is coming out soon. Currently it comes two colors: grey and white. Select white for lighter color variations, and grey for darker colors. It can be tinted just like any plaster product with universal tints, zero voc pigments or dry pigments. The maximum amount of pigment that can be added is 10 percent of the total volume of the product. .
How is Tadelakt applied?
It requires the addition of only clean water for mixing. Restore and repair walls to smooth surfaces. Apply a base coat of shower plaster with a stainless steel trowel. Let it dry for 24 hours then apply first coat of shower plaster using short random strokes. Do not let your edges dry; apply wet material to wet material. Let this layer dry about 70%. Before the previous coat completely dries, apply a second coat, increase your troweling pressure for this coat. Before the material dries completely trowel down the material with a clean burnishing trowel. This step will close up grain and smooth the surface. Apply sealer or wax at the end.
What kind of coverage would I get from your Tadelakt?
One bag of 30 lb will cover approximately 180 square feet, depending on the application 2 to 3 coats are necessary.
Is Tadelakt durable?
If the walls are maintained properly, meaning avoiding harsh cleaners, it is very easy to maintain. It can also be waxed every other year to make it additionally resistant to stains.
